Ink Inside — a co-op beat-em-up role-playing adventure — places players into a world where unscripted doodlings, unusual beasts, and secrets are waiting to be uncovered. The hero, Stick, is an incomplete sketch ripped from the edges of a forgotten notebook. Navigating his world, Stick has to contend with memory and identity issues, the evil Sog who is destroying their world and turning friendly scribbles into horrible mindless monsters. Through this journey they make new allies, discover fragments of past memories, and are caught trying to save their friends from the evil forces trying to take their lives. The game then pulls players to a narrative that reads part adventure, part heart, with every fight heavy on the loss of a past life and fledgling relationships.
Ink InsideFeels different more than any other action of the showing, every character is more unique and colorful than the last. Stick is not alone in the battle against the oncoming Sog. They are accompanied by Detective Fuzz, a trusty sidekick with a keen mind and an even sharper sense of humor. And then there’s Traff, another character who hits as hard as the Princess of Curses, physically as much as verbally. The ensemble of characters that get together squelches and hunkers down into something that skirt’s the line between anarchism and camaraderie. It is dynamic is a lovely thing to watch, and the ways that they plug each other’s gaps to circumvent obstacles on the map can make for some of the best buddy-buddy battling moments this side of the divide.
