Tower of Mask Overview
Tower of Mask is a crawler with influences taken straight from the golden era of 1980s dungeon crawler RPGs, but puts a modern spin on retro mechanics. This title drops players into a sprawling tower filled with magic, enemies, traps and reality-bending puzzles to solve and various enemies to vanquish en route. Perhaps the simplest but most difficult goal: scale the tower to the top. But it is an uphill task. Gone from that release, however, as gamers push on, new threats, from deadly beasts to environmental hazards, await to test their wits and fighting ability.
Tower of Mask’s heart lies in strategic combat and movement. There’s no button mashing, no rapid combat exchanges like you get in some of today’s action games. There aren’t buttons to mash so much as players are left to duke it out in real time, with an emphasis on positioning and timing. Everything and every step counts with its grid-based movement system. Each enemy has its unique movement and attack pattern, and you must know what it’s doing next if you want to survive.
The users must maneuver in a way to know when to attack and when to protect. It is not enough to simply kill your foes, which is just what they expect, because they are just to the left of you. Add to this a progression system that encourages those elements as well, and you have something pretty special all-round!
